❛ gwen … i’m here if you want to talk , ❜ he spoke softly as he inched closer into her cabin and slowly sat at the edge of her bed . he should have asked her permission but he was too upset to realize , how could he be so blind and not see that gwen wasn’t as happy today ?
❛ you’re not a big baby , gwen . you’re a strong and independent woman . ❜ comforting the campers was easy but talking with his best friend was a different story , he worked with her for months ; and yes , she was lazy and had a rather foul mouth but not even she deserves to be so sad . with the campers , he could easily make them happy by giving them a pudding cup or simply allowing them to sit out from tomorrow’s activities but here , it wouldn’t work as well .
❛ you don’t have to tell me what is wrong but i’d like to try and make you happy . if you want me to leave , that’s fine too … but that won’t solve your problems . ❜ with a comforting smile , he outstretched his arm to rest a gentle hand onto her covered leg ; a small gesture but he wanted to let her know that he was there for her .
She burrowed deeper under her blankets. Sniffling quietly, she tried her best to wipe her eyes, to hide. Normally she got away with crying all night, but apparently not tonight. She’d been caught.
And Gwen wasn’t too thrilled about that. At least it was David, and not one of the campers, she guessed.
“Same old, same old. Nothing new. Just me being a big baby.”
