There had been numerous insults wandering upon the tip of his tongue, each one more bitter than the last and lost, much like they were. Energy wasted on making David feel like an idiot- his favorite past time- was still energy wasted, and that was not an option.
He hadn’t thought a bet would take them this far. A role reversal? Please, like he was going to die on the behalf of one of the most cliche tropes there was at Summer Camp. On the other hand, what had made him think he could get through this with David and not be lost without his… guidance.
No. Max would survive, navigate them out of this god forsaken forest, and when he was finally on shitty camp grounds, he’d hot wire any car in his sight to finally make his great escape.
Shaken from his flurry of thoughts and halfhearted muttering, Max glanced over his shoulder at a worried looking David and he sighed. The man looked like a kicked puppy and made Max feel only vaguely guilty about the ordeal.
It was vague okay, vague.
“We’re headed back to camp, David. Don’t over react or your panic will make me panic, and in a survival situation, that equates to both of us being fucked.”
The kid stopped in his tracks, glancing around in the near dimness for something…something… “Look- there’s a rock we didn’t pass.” And that it was, right next to the one they had passed. Without further delay, he picked up two sticks, made an ‘x’ on the ground in front of it, and decided to go back the way they came.
But first-
“The woods aren’t exactly endless, David.” Every time Max said his name, it was like an insult on its own. “There are borders, surrounding land, and in the smack dab middle of the green shit stain, is dear old Camp Camp. We’ve got what, an hour, two left till we’re there? Be useful and stop complaining while I look around.”
❛ max , i don’t think we’re going the right way back to camp . we’ve passed this rock twice . ❜ squeezing his arm , he kept his attention on the young camper leading him through the woods ; which in his mind , was switched around . however , having tripped over a raised root and scrapping both his knees on unforgiving rocks ; he did not mind the camper leading him on a path out of danger . the sky was darkening with every hour that passed and he knew they’d need shelter soon . if they could not find the camp within the next hour then it would be up to david to keep max out of harms way and by his side until morning . ❛ i don’t even remember these many trees . the woods here is bigger than i thought . ❜ now that he was thinking , how did they end up wandering the woods ?
❛ i don’t much like your attitude , max . but you are right , i need to be useful . ❜ that being said , he breathed in and puffed out his chest ; rather stupid looking if anyone who didn’t know how he act , saw him . he gently shoved max out of the lead role and took over himself . he was the camp counselor . he was an adult . so , it was only the right thing to do was to take over and be that useful person that the camper needed . then he realized he had no idea which way to turn on the paths laid out before him . maybe it’d be best to find shelter , he could make a small tent out of twigs and leaves for max . he doesn’t mind sleeping on the wood’s nature carpet . no , he needed to keep walking . they’d find camp eventually . surely someone was looking for them ? gwen can’t handle the camp all by herself . i’m sure she’s searching .
❛ we have about an hour or less . the sun is setting too quickly and it’s becoming harder to see among all these trees . max , i know that they aren’t endless . i am just a little …. afraidofthedarkandbeinginthewoodsatnight . ❜
