crystal : pearl ; a mental health headcanon

   ➤ david has posttraumatic stress disorder , it began as 
         a child after jasper’s death . hearing that his friend had
         passed away caused him to wonder if it was his fault
         that he was no longer breathing . if he had been able
         to grab jasper’s hand and preventing him from falling ; 
         they would never have been faced with the bear . 
         he is older but the stress of losing someone close to him
         has never went away ; he fears that he will not be able to
         save a camper from death . with chucky , his stress only
         became worse , though relieved that he was still alive but
         severely disabled ; it struck fear in him . he may seem like
         happy and problem-free counselor , but if he shares anything
         with gwen , it’s the stress of the job . he doesn’t want anyone
         else to die , especially under his care . he still has nightmares
         about jasper and sometimes at night , you can see him sitting
         at the lake ; looking out at spooky island and whispering apologies .

   ➤ david has a medium opinion on himself . he believes he is a good
         person and a well counselor , however , without an award for best
         counselor of the year , he still sees room for improvement . other 
         than that , he is trying to prove himself to the campers that there is
         more to him than camping and smiles . he is a human being . he 
         cries and gets angry like everyone else but it’s hard for him to show
         any of those emotions to them , which he doesn’t like about himself . 
         he could go on about everything bad about himself but why do that ?

         overall , he thinks high and low of himself but he has a lot of work to do .
